2024 Primary Election

Overview

The Primary Election will be conducted as a traditional in-person election with Vote by Mail ballots being available to all registered voters who apply. Additionally, voters will have the opportunity to vote early in-person on voting machines prior to Election Day at seven locations throughout Camden County.

In-Person Voting on Election Day, June 4, 2024

The polls will be open 6 AM to 8 PM
All Polling Places are ADA accessible
Voters will be able to vote in their local polling place on a voting machine.
Each voter is sent a Sample Ballot that lists their polling place. For a complete list of all polling places CLICK HERE
When the voters enter the polling place, they will be checked-in on an electronic poll book. To speed the check-in process, voters can bring their sample ballot with its scannable barcode to find their voter record faster.
Any voter that was sent a Vote by Mail ballot cannot vote in a machine on Election Day. These voters, however, can cast a provisional ballot. The provisional ballot will be counted once all timely Vote by Mail Ballots arrive and it is verified that the voter did not cast two ballots.

Early Voting

Early Voting is the newest option voters have in order to cast their ballot for the General Election.
All Camden County registered voters can appear at any of the locations. Voters are not assigned a specific location. Ballots for all Camden County municipalities are available at each location.
There are seven (7) early voting sites located throughout Camden County. The locations can be found HERE
The Early Voting locations are open from May 29, 2024 through June 2, 2024. Monday to Saturday, 10am to 8pm and Sunday, 10am to 6pm
When the voters enter the Early Voting Site, they will be checked-in on an electronic poll book. To speed the check-in process, voters can bring their sample ballot with its scannable barcode to find their voter record faster.
Early Voting will be conducted on voting machines; however, the machines are different from the Election Day machines. These new machines have two parts: a ballot marking device and a scanning tabulator. The ballot marking device has an electronic touchscreen that allows the voters to choose their candidates/question responses and have them printed on a paper ballot. The voter will then immediately insert the voted paper ballot in the separate scanning tabulator to cast the ballot in private.
Any voter that was sent a Vote by Mail ballot cannot vote in a machine during Early Voting. These voters, however, can cast a provisional ballot. The provisional ballot will be counted once all timely Vote by Mail Ballots arrive and it is verified that the voter did not cast two ballots.

All registered voters are eligible to receive a VBM Ballot.
Voters must apply to receive a VBM Ballot.
Commencement of the mailing of Vote by Mail Ballots begins September 23rd.

Returning Your VBM Ballot By Secure Dropbox

There are 29 secure drop boxes located throughout Camden County in which you can drop off your ballot.
Drop boxes are open 24 hours a day in well-lit locations and are under video surveillance.
The drop boxes are open until the close of polls, 8 PM on June 4, 2024.
Drop boxes are very secure, monitored by security cameras and collected every day by County election official teams of one Democrat and one Republican.

By Mail

The ballots are postage paid.
They can be returned to any US Post Office or in a USPS mailbox.
If it is close to election day, it is recommended that you ask the Post Office to hand cancel the envelope to assure it has a readable postmark.
Ballots postmarked on or before Election Day will be counted if received by June 10th, 2024.

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Election Day 6 AM to 8 PM

Since you will be bearing your ballot, identification is required.
If someone else transports your ballot, they must complete the Bearer portion of the Green return envelope.

Requesting a Replacement Ballot

If you do not receive your ballot, or it is damaged, not correctly voted or misplaced, you can request a replacement ballot by CLICKING HERE
If you are requesting a replacement to be sent to you by mail, the deadline for your request is May 28th, 2024.
Requests for replacement ballots can be made in-person through the close of polls on Election Day.

Tracking Your Ballot

To confirm that your ballot was received:

Login to the State of New Jersey’s Public Access System
- Your Voter ID Number may be needed to log in if your Driver’s License number does not work
- Your Voter ID Number is a letter followed by 10 numeric digits and can be found:
  - On the Vote by Mail Certificate above your address
  - On your Sample Ballot
  - By calling the Board of Elections at (856) 401-8683
  - By calling the County Clerk at (856) 225-7219

Vote by Mail is Safe and Secure

Camden County takes every precaution to ensure your vote is confidential, safe and secure during this process. See these steps Camden County is taking and how to ensure your vote is completed correctly.

VBM ballots have unique bar codes and cannot be duplicated and ensures they will only be counted once.
Your signature on your VBM is verified against your signature on file, so no one can use your ballot and successfully vote using your ballot. Anyone attempting to fraudulently submit a VBM ballot will be referred to the Prosecutor’s Office. Voting more than once is a crime of the third degree and can carry a penalty of incarceration up to 5 years and a fine up to $15,000
You must follow the instructions provided, and you must use the outside security envelope.
When you vote by mail, no one can see how your vote was cast. Your signature is verified against your registration signature and then the signature flap is removed and separated before your ballot is opened and subsequently counted. The people counting the ballots will never see your name or signature in connection with the ballot.
If your ballot is held aside due to a discrepancy in the signature verification process, you will be given an opportunity to “cure” or fix your ballot.

Results of the Election

All votes (Election Day Machines, Early Voting Machines, Vote by Mail, and Provisional) will be included in the final vote tally.
The Vote by Mail ballots and Early Voting ballots are counted first and will be included in the Election Night Results soon after the close of polls.
The Election Day machine tallies will be added to the results on Election Night as they arrive from each location and will likely take several hours to complete.
Vote by Mail Ballots postmarked on or before Election Day will be counted if received by June 10, 2024. These tallies will be added to the totals regularly
Provisional ballots need to be verified to confirm that no Vote by Mail ballot was received, preventing the casting of multiple ballots, so they cannot be counted until all Vote by Mail ballots are received.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my vote count if I Vote by Mail?

If received timely, all ballots will be counted and included in the final results. As in every election, the Vote by Mail ballots will be counted first during Election Day, and because the Provisional ballots require verification to prevent casting multiple ballots, they must be counted last.

What is the difference between Vote by Mail Ballots, Mail-In Ballots, and Absentee Ballots?

There is no difference. While some people claim that there is a slight difference in how ballots are requested, in New Jersey, there is not a difference in how the ballots are processed and counted.

If I put a stamp on the ballot return envelope, will it be sent first class instead of bulk mail and get there faster?

Putting a stamp on the prepaid envelope will not change anything. First, the prepaid envelopes are first class. Second, regardless of the stamp, the barcodes on the ballot envelope will still send it to the PO Box through the same postal stream paths.

Should I “test the system” by voting by mail and then go to the polls?

Anyone that attempts to vote more than once will be referred to the Prosecutor’s Office. Voting more than once is a crime of the third degree and can carry a penalty of incarceration up to 5 years and a fine up to $15,000.

I don’t know any of the candidates, will my ballot count if I don’t vote for every office?

You can vote for less candidates and/or questions than available and your ballot will still be valid.

Do I have to wait until close to the election to return your ballot?
You can vote and return your ballot immediately.
