ANDROS MARK V-A

HAZARDOUS INCIDENT ROBOT
(H.I.R.)

wpeE.jpg (184112 bytes)The ANDROS MARK V-A is the largest, strongest robot in the REMOTEC family. The MARK V-A is environmentally sealed to operate in any weather conditions.

The Sheriff's Office has acquired a hazardous incident robot to be utilized in situations deemed to be too dangerous for officers or emergency personnel. The Andros Mark V-A has capabilities to enter areas considered unsafe for personnel and perform operations necessary to ensure their safety. The robot can be used to identify and dispose of explosive devices, has audio communication capabilities for utilization in hostage situations; has the ability to pull injured persons from dangerous situations; and is armed with a 12 gauge automatic shotgun for defensive or offensive altercations. While the unit weighs approximately 600 lbs., it is able to lift 65 lbs., drag 400 lbs., climb 45 degree stairs or slopes, span  36" ditches, and scale 18" high ledges.

1. Radio Control/Umbilical Cord with 350'extension.

2. Two (2) Cameras.

           a. Color - pan and tilt.

           b. Black & White - stationary.

3. Control Station - AC/DC with monitor.

4. Robot is DC 24 volt battery powered.

5. Robot Arm.

a. Full extension is 7' with a lifting ability of 35 + lbs.

          b. Closed with a lifting ability of 100 +lbs.

          c. Shoulder turns 90 "degrees" in either direction.

          d. Elbow.
6. X-ray.

7. Water resistant.
8. Shotgun with laser sight.
9. Wrist - turns 360 "degrees" and continues in either direction.
10.. Claw - Able to pick-up an egg without cracking or crushing it.
11. Mobility.
        a. Six (6) Kevlar Tracks.
        b. Front and rear articulation.
        c. Can cross a depression up to 36" width.
        d. Can go into water up to 18" deep

        e. Can climb stairs up to 45 degrees.
        f. Zero radius turn.
        g. Two (2) speeds.
             1).  1/4  MPH

        h. Robot arm and track has operational speed that can be increased or decreased

WATER DISRUPTER MOUNT

1. Q. - What is a water Cannon?

1. A. - A water cannon is a Remote Render Safety Tool. It only holds 3-4 ozs. of water and is propelled by a modified 12 gauge shotgun round.

        - It is fired off remotely by way of an electric charge supplied by a blasting machine.

        -  Water is used for soft package explosive device.

        -  A stainless steel slug is used for hard package explosive devices.

2. Q. - How much of a blast will the Explosive Transport Pod take and has it been used?

2. A. - The Explosive Transport Pod is tested prior to leaving the factory with 30 lbs. of TNT which is equivalent to 10 lbs. of C-4 Plastic Explosives. The E.T.P. is constructed of 2 hard rolled steel containers. The outer layer is 3/4" thick and the inner layer is 1" thick. The E.T.P. has been used extensively by the Unit.

3. Q. - What kind of training does a officer go through?

3. A. - Each Officer/Hazardous Device Technician has to have five (5) years street experience, is trained by the F.B.I., and the U.S. Military at the Redstone Arsenal is Huntsville, AL. With our refresher every three (3) years and two (2) days of Unit training every month. Also each H.D.T. receives listed publication from the F.B.I.; B.A.T.F.; I.N.T.E.R.P.O.L.; I.A.B.T.I. and T.J.E.E.

4. Q. - How many H.D.T. are there in the Unit?

4. A. - At present their are a six (6) members who are on call twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week and three hundred sixty-five (365) days a year.
