Camden County & Be SMART For Secure Gun Storage
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a significant rise in unintentional shootings by children and gunfire on school grounds. In 2020, firearm-related injuries became the leading cause of death among children in the United States. Gun suicide among children ages 17 and under reached the highest rate in more than 20 years.
Due to an unprecedented surge in gun sales over the past two years, it’s more important than ever for parents and caregivers to participate in secure firearm storage to protect our children. Secure storage is an essential part of home safety, and helps prevent these tragedies and keep kids safe.
Camden County Board of Commissioners, BeSMART and Moms Demand Action South Jersey have partnered together to emphasize the importance of the Be SMART message in our communities.
The Be SMART Message:
The Be SMART framework is designed to help parents and adults normalize conversations about gun safety and take responsible actions that can prevent child gun deaths and injuries.
- Secure all guns in your home and vehicles

About the Be SMART Campaign:
The Be SMART campaign, a program of Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, was launched to raise awareness that secure gun storage—storing guns unloaded, locked and separate from ammunition—can save children’s lives. Be SMART emphasizes that it’s an adult responsibility to keep kids from accessing guns, and that every adult can play a role in keeping kids and communities safer. There are thousands of Be SMART volunteers in your communities and neighborhoods that are delivering the Be SMART message across the country in all 50 states. Learn More.
