Superintendent of Schools

The Camden County Office of Education serves as the local field office and representative for the New Jersey Department of Education. Camden County is home to approximately 511,000 residents of which approximately 76,000 are students that attend one of the 36 school districts (with school buildings), two non-operating school districts (Hi-Nella and Chesilhurst), one Educational Services Commission, and 13 charter/renaissance schools.  There are over 150 schools in the county that provide educational services to the children on a daily basis during the school year.

The Camden County Office of Education, under the direction of the Executive County Superintendent of Schools, is responsible for the following:

  • Evaluation and ongoing monitoring of school district performance
  • Evaluation of opportunities for consolidation of services within the county including, but not limited to, purchasing, special education and transportation services
  • Teacher, educational services and administrator license processing and county substitute credential issuance
  • Review and approval of school district budgets, administrator contracts, pupil transportation contracts and school facilities
  • Health, safety and security issues in public schools
  • Education law and code review, interpretation and enforcement
  • Special education review and approval
  • Criminal background check review and monitoring
  • Grants management review and notification
