In 1976, the first vineyards were planted at Amalthea Cellars. Founder Louis Caracciolo’s infatuation with winemaking began as a young boy making wine in the cellar of his Italian immigrant grandfather. Emilio brought the art from “The Old Country” at the age of thirteen to the southern New Jersey town of Blue Anchor at the turn of the century. Amalthea is currently open for outdoor seating with the following guidelines: Seating is first come, first serve; no reservations. There will be a fee of $25 per seat, and this fee will be a voucher towards a current day only purchase of a tasting flight, bottle or glass of wine.

Cultivation of grapes began when Heritage Vineyards was established in 1999 by Bill and Penni Heritage. Seeing the potential of the emerging wine industry in Southern New Jersey, Bill Heritage, with the help of his wife Penni, started converting their 150 acre estate of peach & apple orchards into vineyards. Bill & Penni Heritage, represent the fifth generation of farmers who have tended this land. Great care is given to the vineyards and the grape growing effort because the key to making great wine is to grow the best quality grapes. This year, William Heritage opened up it’s brand new tasting room in Haddonfield NJ! During Covid-19 the Haddonfield tasting room will only be open for curbside pick-up and walk-ins for to-go bottle sales.
