(Gloucester Township) – The Veterans Health Administration has activated their Emergency Management Coordination Cell (EMCC) to allow veterans access to important care during the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Veterans Affairs Medical Centers are prepared with negative airflow beds and testing kits for veterans who are exhibiting symptoms and need medical treatment.
VA staff is asking for all visitors to call or send a message through My HealtheVet before visiting, even if they have an appointment. Anyone who tries to enter a VA center will be screened for a fever, cough or flu-like symptoms.
“If you are a veteran and are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please call your provider first and speak with them about what the next steps are,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. “The county’s outpatient clinics and main medical center remain open and many appointments are being handled by telephone or video if possible. We’re taking the necessary steps to keep our veterans safe while still providing the critical services needed.”
