Kelly E. Thomas has been giving back to Camden County for the last 25 years and has become a voice for the voiceless. Thomas founded Girls Like You Inc. where she mentors and advocates for black and brown women and girls. As a mother, she has taken that role into the streets and volunteers at A local youth shelter to cook for them. She is a current member of the Winslow Township Board of Education on her second term. She has been a member of the Juvenile Conference Committee of Winslow Twp, served as a member and later chapter president for the National Hook Up of Black Women, Cherry Hill Area Chapter. She has served on the Women of Color Task Force, through the NJCEDV and a became a certified domestic violence and sexual assault responder for SERV. Kelly mentors youth at a local youth shelter and cooks for them once a month, in her words, “So they can have a home cooked meal from a mom”. She spends her evenings helping others who also want to serve by helping them with non profit start up assistance. In the last two years, she has been diagnosed with a medical challenge and the loss of her beloved partner Jay, however she never stops serving her community. Whether she’s exhausted or grieving, she always pushes past her own needs and pain. Through persistence and resilience, Kelly continues to be a beacon of hope for her community.
