(Camden, NJ) – The Camden County Health Hub will now administer a fourth dose of Pfizer and Moderna to people 50 and older or immunocompromised individuals after the Food and Drug Administration authorized the use of a second booster.

“This is another positive development in our fight against COVID-19,” Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. “Getting a booster shot just adds another layer of protection and this dose will provide that extra protection to those in our community who are most at risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19.”

The agency amended the emergency use authorizations as follows:

  • A second booster dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine or Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine may be administered to individuals 50 years of age and older at least four months after receipt of a first booster dose of any authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine.
  • A second booster dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine may be administered to individuals 12 years of age and older with certain kinds of immunocompromise at least four months after receipt of a first booster dose of any authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine. These are people who have undergone solid organ transplantation, or who are living with conditions that are considered to have an equivalent level of immunocompromise.
  • A second booster dose of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine may be administered at least four months after the first booster dose of any authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine to individuals 18 years of age and older with the same certain kinds of immunocompromise.

Everyone 18 and older has been eligible for their first booster shots since Nov. 19, 2021 regardless of prior health qualifiers. Adults can receive a booster six months after getting a second shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or two months after a Johnson & Johnson shot.

“This second booster can truly make a difference for those who are most vulnerable to the virus,” Cappelli said. “So please, if you’re eligible, get your second booster dose to keep yourself and those around you safe and healthy.”

The Camden County Health Hub also offers first and second doses and first booster shots.
