Freeholder Melinda Kane will join current and former members of the Cooper River Yacht Club for a ceremony celebrating the start of its 75th sailing season. The Cooper River Yacht Club was first formed in 1945 by a small group of sailors interested in racing and sailing.
“Cooper River has been a place for families and community in Camden County since it was transformed from a small muddy creek during the Great Depression,” Kane said. “We’re fortunate to have organizations like the Cooper River Yacht Club which are full of individuals passionate about preserving our natural resources and continuing the tradition of sailing and recreation in the park and on the river.”
The Cooper River Yacht Club offers sailing lessons to adults and children and hosts races on the river throughout the summer. The Club is open to all interested participants, including those who do not own their own boat.
