Elected officials from across the city were joined by volunteers today to give away 1,000 turkeys and turkey breasts to the city’s senior citizens and their families. The effort is coordinated as a part of Mayor Victor Carstarphen’s Annual Turkey Giveaway.

“While Thanksgiving is a time for celebration, food insecurity is a real challenge for many living within our community,” said Carstarphen. “Thanks to this donation, we can provide turkeys to those who otherwise may not have the means to purchase or ability to obtain a nourishing meal.”

The turkeys generously donated by an individual who wishes to remain anonymous and who was instrumental in providing for 1,900 Holiday Meals last year pandemic to seniors during the peak of the COVID-19.

“It is truly a blessing to be able to assist our most vulnerable residents, especially during the holiday season,” said Castarphen. “The holidays are all about serving others and giving back to the community.  That is why I am so grateful to the generous donors for opening up their hearts and bringing joy to so many families this Thanksgiving.”

Additionally, turkey breasts were delivered to seniors at fourteen housing complexes located throughout the City of Camden.
