(Blackwood, NJ) – On Saturday, May 6, the Board of Commissioners, and the Camden County Certified Gardeners will be hosting their annual plant sale with thousands of perennials, herbs, vegetables and more available for great prices.
The sale is being held at the Sustainability Campus at 508 Lakeland Road in Blackwood from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.
The event will also feature a plant clinic and several short interactive workshops. The workshop will cover how to make the perfect pesto, container gardening, tool sharpening techniques and native plants and pollinators.
“This is always a wonderful event that is highly anticipated each year,” said Commissioner Jonathan Young, liaison to the Office of Sustainability. “You can come get the plants you need for a successful gardening season and receive advice from experts. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the Sustainability Campus next month.”
Attendees will also be able to pick up tree seedlings at the plant sale as part of the New Jersey Tree Recovery Campaign. Seedlings, available on a first come first served basis, come with instructions on how to store, care for and plant the trees.
The campaign, which is entering its ninth year, is a joint effort between Camden County, the New Jersey Forest Service, the Urban and Community Forestry Program, the New Jersey Forest Service Nursery, the New Jersey Soil Conservation Districts, the Arbor Day Foundation, FedEx, Texpo Energy and Tomorrow Energy.
“When properly planted and taken care of, trees can be incredible assets to our communities,” Young continued. “Not only do they improve the visual appearance of an area, but they reduce cooling costs, remove pollutants from the air and provide a habitat and shelter to important wildlife in our region.”
