(Cherry Hill, NJ) – Annually, the Camden County Commissioner Board approved the recommendations of the Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historical Preservation Trust Fund Advisory Committee to award more than a million dollars of grants for recreational and historic improvement projects to municipalities across the county. In total, $720,885 was distributed for 29 recreational facility enhancement projects and $418,309 was approved for 10 historic preservation projects.

“Investing in the upkeep of recreation facilities and historic sites is a top priority for the Board of Commissioners,” said Commissioner Jeff Nash, liaison to the county Division Environmental Affairs. “Communities thrive when there is ample access to quality recreation facilities and keeping our region’s history alive is incredibly important. We are proud to be able to make both things possible through these grants and we are excited to see how these projects benefit our communities.”

In 1998, the residents of Camden County voted overwhelmingly in support of a referendum to create the Camden County Open Space, Recreation, Farmland and Historical Preservation Trust Fund, to be used to acquire, preserve and maintain environmentally sensitive lands, open space, drinking water sources, historic sites, recreation areas and farmland within Camden County.
