(Camden) The Camden County Sheriff honored a student from Camden High who displayed incredible heroism during a shooting that took place at a football game between Camden High and Pleasantville High School.

When the shooting began, Kenny Smith, the team’s starting center, saw a little girl alone and crying out in the open. Selflessly, Smith grabbed her and hurried her beneath the bleachers where he waited with her until she could be safely reunited with her parents.

“In a moment of panic and chaos, this young man saw a helpless child alone and scared, and he risked his life to make sure she was safe,” said Sheriff Gilbert “Whip” Wilson.  “This kind of bravery and selflessness is rare, and we are extremely proud to celebrate his heroism as an example for all to follow.”
