(Voorhees, NJ) – As Library Card Sign-Up Month kicked off on Sept. 1, the Camden County Library System is encouraging all residents and children to get their own library cards.

For 35 years, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held in September to mark the beginning of the school year. During this month, the American Library Association and libraries across the country join forces to ensure every child signs-up for their own library card.

“Having a library card can save students hundreds of dollars when it’s time to go back to school,” said Commissioner Melinda Kane, liaison to the Camden County Library System. “Library cards can provide a variety of services from access to physical and online textbooks, educational apps, workshops and help from librarians, a library card is an incredibly helpful and cost-effective tool that everyone should utilize.”

Residents of Camden County age 65 or older, veterans and active-duty military living in Camden County are eligible for a free two-year library card.

Any Camden County official or employee; students and tutors registered with the Literacy Volunteers of America – Camden County; employees of Camden County public, private and parochial K-12 schools and homeschoolers who reside in Camden County; K-12 students residing in non-member communities who are enrolled in member community schools; staff, faculty, and students who are employed by or reside in the Rutgers University Camden Campus are eligible for a free one-year card.

Residents of non-member communities and those who reside outside of Camden County may purchase a library card at the following rates:

  • Three-month card – $25.00 per household
  • Six-month card – $50.00 per household
  • One-year card – $85.00 per household
  • One year card — Senior citizens (age 65 and over) who reside outside of Camden County- $20.00 per person
