The statement below is by Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. and Commissioners Melinda Kane and Jeffrey Nash on behalf of the Camden County Board of Commissioners in regard to the invasion of the nation of Israel and the ongoing conflict with Hamas and Hezbollah.
“As a county with a large population of Jewish and Israeli-American neighbors, the events that have taken place in Israel are heartbreaking. Yesterday, the world watched in horror the arbitrary, heinous and appalling acts of terrorism to southern Israel. We watched terrifying images broadcasted internationally that showed the indiscriminate kidnapping and killing of citizens and foreign nationals creating one of the worst atrocities in Israeli history. Based on these events we want our community and the world to know we stand with people of Israel and the families of those who have lost loved ones. Furthermore, we definitively condemn the attacks by Hamas and Hezbollah that are occurring during this current period of time.
While there are no credible threats to our region, unfortunately this also is a stark reminder that there continues to be purveyors of hate in this world and acts of anti-Semitism that have taken place in the past. Because of this our Department of Public Safety will be monitoring houses of worship of both Jewish and Islamic faiths throughout the county. We also call upon residents to be extra vigilant, and if you see anything suspicious please say something by calling 911 and report it to your local authorities.”
