Senior Freeze Filing Deadline Extended Until December 31

(Camden, NJ) – Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, liaison to the Camden County Board of Taxation, wants senior citizens to know that the deadline for the 2019 Senior Freeze Property Tax Reimbursement Program has been extended from November 2 to December 31.

“There is still time for qualified seniors to file an application to freeze the property taxes on their home at its current rate,” Cappelli said. “This program protects senior citizens from facing the burden of increased property taxes. Many seniors are living on fixed incomes and should not be taxed out of their longtime home.”

The Senior Freeze Program reimburses eligible senior citizens and disabled individuals for property tax or mobile home park site fee increases on their principal residence. The program establishes a base year of eligibility and compares that with subsequent tax years. The difference in the amount is then refunded by the State annually to the taxpayer.

Eligible taxpayers began receiving payments on October 15. Previous recipients of the program should have received their application booklet in the mail beginning in February.

To qualify, individuals must meet all the eligibility requirements for each year from the base year through the application year (the current application year is 2019).
