(Lindenwold, NJ) –The Grove Street Bridge detour will be lifted on Monday, Oct. 1, and outer lanes on the Cuthbert Boulevard Bridge will continue to be closed until Oct. 15. Both lanes will be opened on Grove Street and the detour along the route will no longer be needed.

Detour on Grove Street will continue until October 1

“Due to a variety of extenuating circumstances, including inclement weather, these projects are continuing slightly past our original estimated date of completion,” said Freeholder Susan Shin Angulo, liaison to the Department of Public Works. “Nevertheless, this work is critical to our bridge and roadway network and paramount to keep drivers and pedestrians moving through Camden County.”

First announced this July, the $1 million projects funded by the state Department of Transportation Local Bridge Future Needs fund will include the strengthening of weakened beams by the addition of steel angles, steel plate, and steel channels to the webs and flanges of the affected beams as specified by the engineer. The work shall include traffic control and maintenance, cleaning and painting of steel, and the installation of reinforced concrete diaphragms.

“Even though we are opening both lanes on the Grove Street span we have not finished the project and will continue to work under the bridge. That said, we may still need to close lanes on that structure in the future until it can be completed,” Shin Angulo continued. “Projects like this can be unpredictable when waterways and weather are factored in.”
