The statement below is by Commissioner Cappelli regarding Governor Murphy signing S3203 into law, establishing in-person early voting in New Jersey.

“I applaud Governor Murphy and the New Jersey Legislature for continuing to expand access to our democratic process in the Garden State. At a time when other states are restricting and curtailing the right to vote for so many, this measure makes voting easier and more accessible for Camden County residents.

Our country’s history with regards to voting rights is obviously far from perfect. For too long, millions of Americans were either denied the right to vote entirely or were systematically disenfranchised by a multitude of laws and regulations which targeted minority groups. Unfortunately, we are seeing legislators in other states repeating these mistakes and making voting harder because of election results they found disappointing.

Anyone who wants to exercise their right to vote should be able to, and we should be fighting to remove the barriers in their way, not erecting new ones. Today’s signing shows that New Jersey is headed in the right direction, and Camden County’s residents will benefit from this progress.”
