(Gloucester Township, NJ) – New Jersey Department of Human Services will conduct a free distribution of naloxone, the opioid overdose reversal drug, at participating pharmacies throughout state on June 18.
“As we battle this epidemic, the ability to quickly administer naloxone is the difference between life and death for an individual in distress,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr., liaison to the Camden County Addiction Awareness Task Force. “The scourge of heroin is ripping apart our families and killing our residents. It is imperative for all of us to arm ourselves and our communities with the tools needed to combat this crisis.”
Naloxone will be distributed one dose per person on a first-come, first-serve basis without an individual prescription or an appointment. Naloxone can reverse overdoses from opioids by blocking the effects of opioids on the brain. Information regarding addiction treatment and recovery will also be provided.
