Collingswood Bike Rodeo

On Oct. 16 the Borough of Collingswood joins forces with Cross County Connection, Sustainable Collingswood, local bike advocacy groups and the Borough’s fire and police departments to host a Bike Rodeo for kids age 5-12. The event begins at 9am in the parking lot of the Scottish Rite Auditorium, 315 White Horse Pike, and encourages young riders to increase their cycling knowledge and practice skills important to increasing safety on the streets. Collingswood police officers and members of local cycling groups will join in the fun, directing riders through obstacle courses and leading conversations on bike safety.

Along with interactive demonstrations and bike education tools, members of the Collingswood Bike Share conduct tune ups at the rodeo, checking gears, tires, chains and handlebars and taking care of necessary small repairs.

Collingswood recently completed several Safe Routes to School projects including new curb bump outs, crosswalks and ensuring corners are accessible. Most recently, the Borough unveiled its All Aboard Atlantic Complete Streets expo project which temporarily added advisory bike lanes, crosswalks and bump outs along Atlantic Ave. This project was highlighted during the NJ BPAC meeting on Sept. 15. The Borough is committed to increasing accessibility for all abilities and the Bike Rodeo tackles another layer of education through an engaging experience with the goal of increasing bike and street safety. In order to offer a comprehensive program at the rodeo, the Borough has invited trained and educated cycling groups and advocates to participate and share their knowledge with young cyclists. The day is filled with fun activities, bike helmet distributions and educational resources for young riders and their care givers.
