“A Taste of History” at Pomona Hall with Chef Staib

Chef Walter Staib will appear at a special screening of the Emmy-Award winning A Taste of History on Sunday November 3 at 1:30 p.m. at the Camden County Historical Society (CCHS), 1900 Park Boulevard in Camden NJ. This special event is hosted by CCHS and Crossroads of the American Revolution.

Pomona Hall, a 1726 brick mansion operated by CCHS, recently served as a production location of A Taste of History. Chef Staib will return to Camden to show highlights of the series and the evolution of Colonial American cuisine. The series offers viewers a glimpse into the life of the founders of our country and prominent historical figures through the foods and recipes they prepared. In each episode, viewers explore the origin of featured recipes and ingredients to reveal the important historical contexts.

The $30 admission includes the viewing and talk, along with a DVD and samples from A Taste of History’s pastry chef Diana Wolkow. Signed copies of Chef Staib’s A Taste of History Cookbook will also be available for purchase. Tickets are available at the event website:

A third-generation restaurateur with more than four decades of culinary experience, Chef Walter Staib began his career in Europe, receiving formal training in many of Europe’s finest hotels and restaurants.

Chef Staib’s culinary excellence has earned him numerous other awards, among them the 2016 inductee of the American Academy of Chefs Culinary Hall of Fame™ as Celebrated Chef and the first inductee into the Caribbean Culinary Hall of Fame. He was also appointed the First Culinary Ambassador to the City of Philadelphia and was named the Culinary Ambassador to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Staib was also awarded the Seven Stars & Stripes Award for Excellence in Hospitality and the National Restaurant Association Keystone Humanitarian Award for Pennsylvania. He is an inductee into the American Academy of Chefs Culinary Hall of Fame™ as Celebrated Chef.

Diana Wolkow is executive chef at City Tavern in Philadelphia, where she recreates the sweets of a bygone era in modern terms for today’s cooks. She assisted in the authoring of Chef Staib’s A Sweet Taste of History Cookbook and is a frequent contributor on the A Taste of History television series.

Founded in 1899, the Camden County Historical Society is a public, non-profit organization dedicated to the collection, preservation, study, interpretation, and cultural enrichment of life in Camden County and Southern New Jersey.

Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area was established by the U.S. Congress to connect the people and places of New Jersey’s rich Revolutionary heritage to inspire community pride, stewardship and civic engagement. The only National Heritage Area to focus exclusively on the impact of the war for independence on average citizens, Crossroads works to promote and enhance New Jersey’s Revolutionary-era historical sites and landscapes, and is the official private-sector partner of the NJ Historical Commission in planning the state’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the U.S.
