9/11 Memorial Rededication

Last year, the Camden County Board of Commissioners received several artifacts from Ground Zero, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania that have been preserved from the coordinated attacks on the nation on 9/11. These new historical markers were implemented into a new memorial dedicated to the victims of terrorism at Cooper River Park. The previous memorial was moved, reconstructed and placed in monument row in the Cherry Hill section of the park. On Sunday, prior to the annual Travis Manion Race the Board will be unveiling the newest monument to a day that will never be forgotten and live infamy for the loss of human life.

The artifacts at the new memorial include:

  • Structural steel came from the towers at the World Trade Center.
  • Limestone came from the Pentagon.
  • Soil came from the ground in Stonycreek Township, Pennsylvania, near Shanksville.
