Brian Gregg has been a steadfast advocate for youth and families in Camden, dedicating his time and energy to creating safe, supportive spaces for growth and success. As a basketball coach, mentor, and community leader, Brian has become a trusted figure, building relationships that inspire trust and positive change.
Beginning during his time attending Rutgers-Camden, Brian volunteered with the Camden District Council Collaborative Board, Michael J. Doyle Fieldhouse, the North Camden Little League, Big Brothers Big Sisters and a number of other grassroots organizations focused on community development, mentorship and sport. Brian’s commitment to service during his time at Rutgers-Camden earned him the Chancellor’s Award for Student Civic Engagement in 2014.
Since graduating, Brian has been an educator with the Camden City School District. Outside of this, Brian has spent evenings and weekends volunteering his time as a mentor and coach, supporting young people through a variety of recreational basketball programs through the Camden Kroc Center, the City of Camden’s recreation department and the MJD Fieldhouse. Each Spring, Brian volunteers his time with the South Jersey Titans AAU basketball program where he coaches and conducts fundraising efforts to provide AAU basketball exposure and opportunities to a team made up of Camden youth, at no cost. Brian is a strong believer in the power of mentorship through sport and teaching lessons that transcend the court. With this belief, Brian has been a dedicated volunteer of the Camden County Police Department’s Open Gym initiative every Friday evening since its inception in 2020, and has assisted with the continued growth of this program.
Outside of sport, Brian’s ability to connect with youth has not only prevented negative behaviors but also fostered opportunities for development and success. Since 2020, Brian has further demonstrated his commitment by spearheading educational access programs, partnering with nonprofit organizations to expand opportunities for Camden’s youth. Brian continues to engage his community through restorative justice practices, positive youth development strategies, and initiatives that build social capital, including mentoring justice impacted young people. Beyond celebratory moments, he creates healing spaces during difficult times, ensuring that young people and families have the support they need to thrive. His actions, both in-person and online, reflect his unwavering dedication to empowering Camden’s next generation.
