The primary functions performed by the Sheriffs Office are mandated by statute. They include responsibilities in both civil and criminal areas of the law. These responsibilities include:
* Court Security Bureau - Providing security for the Hall of Justice Complex which includes 29 courtrooms.
* Investigations Bureau - Includes the Special Investigations Bureau which is responsible for the apprehension of all county fugitives and the Missing Persons Unit.
* Bureau of Criminal Identification - Maintains photographs, fingerprints and criminal histories of all persons arrested for an indictable offense in the county.
* Civil Process Bureau - Oversees the service of summonses and complaints, writs of execution, execution of judgments, and foreclosure sales of real property.
* Transportation Bureau - Responsible for transporting adult and juveniles remands.
Ancillary Services provided by this Office include:
* Technical Service Unit (Bomb Squad).
* Canine (K-9) Unit (drug and bomb sniffing dogs)
The total staff numbers 188, which includes the Sheriff, 1 Undersheriff, 125 Sheriff's Officers, 5 Sheriff's Investigators, 20 Sergeants, 5 Lieutenants, 2 Captains, The civilian staff numbers is 29.
