 A DESCRIPTION OF THIS OFFICE

         The primary functions performed by the Sheriff’s Office are mandated by statute. They include responsibilities in both civil and criminal areas of the law. These responsibilities include:

* Court Security Bureau - Providing security for the Hall of Justice Complex which includes 29 courtrooms.

* Investigations Bureau - Includes the Special Investigations Bureau which is responsible for the apprehension of all county fugitives and the Missing Persons Unit.

* Bureau of Criminal Identification - Maintains photographs, fingerprints and criminal histories of all persons arrested for an indictable offense in the county.

* Civil Process Bureau - Oversees the service of summonses and complaints, writs of execution, execution of judgments, and foreclosure sales of real property.

* Transportation Bureau - Responsible for transporting adult and juveniles remands.

        Ancillary Services provided by this Office include:

* Technical Service Unit (Bomb Squad).

* Canine (K-9) Unit (drug and bomb sniffing dogs)

* Tactical Team.

* Trained Negotiators.

The total staff numbers 191, which includes the Sheriff, 1 Undersheriff, 1Chief Sheriff Officer, 131 Sheriff's Officers, 5 Sheriff's Investigators, 16 Sergeants, 5Lieutenants, 4 Captains, The civilian staff numbers is 27.
