Office of the Sheriff Camden County, New Jersey Bike Patrol Unit

The Office of the Sheriff’s Bike Patrol Unit consists of two (2) uniformed officers. Both officers are highly trained mountain bike operators and patrol tactic experts. They received their training at the Camden County Police Academy at Camden County College and are certified by the International Police Mountain Bike Association.

Utilizing specially outfitted mountain bikes and additional special equipment, these officers provide the public with a unique level of safety, security, and community policing that other conventional means of patrol can not offer.

The Bike Patrol Unit operates in Center City Camden, patrolling State, County, and Municipal facilities. Additionally they assist the Sheriff’s K-9 Unit, Camden City Police, and other Law Enforcement Agencies in their daily operations.

The primary advantages of a Bike Patrol Unit include:

• Mobility to go where traditional motor vehicles cannot.
• More cost effective than automobile patrol.
• Units have the ability to blend in, or be a highly visible deterrent.
• Officers are more approachable, enhancing relationships between police and community
