Zone 8 was the first phase of the Cooper River Vision Plan implementation that was completed June 2015. Located at the intersection of North Park Dive and Cuthbert Boulevard, it serves as the beginning and end points for all competitive rowing events. Features include a vista deck, porous pavement and parking area, native plantings and garden walls.
With its prominent location, a key design consideration is to showcase a predominantly native landscape with four seasons of interest. Other unique features include a sophisticated system of reinforced stabilized gravel parking complimented by porous asphalt walks all designed for storm water infiltration and groundwater recharge.
Extensive native riparian edge plantings define the overall ecological character of Cooper River Park as a high quality recreational as well as educational destination. Historic river stone seat walls reflect the park’s past and become a part of its future welcoming the public to the first vista deck. Garden walls and plantings define the perimeter edge along North Park Drive and provide a unique architectural structure to the landscape.
