Golf Tip - The Sand Shot

Golf Tip - Sand Shot

“Blast the Dollar”

If you are like many golfers, you are afraid of the sand. However, that does not need to be the case. When done properly, the sand can be one of the easier shots in golf. I am going to give you one simple tip that should get you out of the trap every time. Before we get to the tip though, let us review the set up for the sand shot. Here are the basics:

  • Play the ball slightly forward of center in your stance
  • Have your stance open (aimed a little left, for the right handed golfer)
  • Keep your weight slightly forward

Now the tip:

  • Draw a dollar around your golf ball. The ball would go right on top of George Washington’s head
  • Address the ball with your sand wedge slightly above the sand (touching/grounding the club in the sand is a penalty)
  • Now swing, blasting out the entire bill. Do not stop at the dollar bill, make your full finish with your weight staying forward

Remember, this is a practice tip! You may not draw a dollar (you will have visualize it) in the sand while you play, it is a penalty. So, come on out to the Camden County Golf Academy’s new short game area with sand trap, and practice “blasting that dollar”.
