Environmental Commission
Central Camden County Bike and Multi-Use Trail PlanIn 2007, Camden County contracted with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission ( DVRPC) to develop the Central Camden County Bicycle and Multi-Use Trail Plan, the first of a multi-phase planning effort that will result in a county-wide trail master plan. This plan was funded in part with a 2007 Smart Growth Grant from the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions. The Project Team for this plan involved representatives of the Environmental Commission of Camden County, the Camden County Open Space and Farmland Preservation Advisory Committee, and the ten municipalities included in the planning area.
The Plan, which was completed in the summer of 2009, envisions using a combination of lightly traveled streets (identified as recommended routes), on-road bike lanes and existing and proposed off-road trails through public open space to connect people and places in ten Central Camden County municipalities including, Berlin Township, Berlin Borough, Clementon, Gibbsboro, Ni-Nella, Laurel Springs, Lindenwold, Somerdale, Stratford, and Voorhees. The resulting network could be used by either bikers or walkers as both a means of recreation and as a safe alternative mode of transportation for trips to schools, parks, and shopping areas.
