(Cherry Hill, NJ) – The East All-Stars defeated the West All-Stars on Monday night, and in doing so brought a literal interpretation of the term “walk-off” to Campbell’s Field in Camden. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Dan Brown of Haddonfield walked to bring in the game-winning run in the 15th Annual Camden County All-Star High School Baseball Game.

“The Freeholder Board sponsors this game every year so that some of our best athletes can have one last chance to take the diamond before they move on,” said Freeholder Deputy Director Ed McDonnell, liaison to the Camden County Department of Special Events. “For some of these students, this was the last time they’ll ever get to play the game of baseball at this kind of competitive level. It’s great to see that this particular game, regardless of the winner, came all the way down to the last pitch, and really gave them a chance to soak up every moment.”

West led 2-0 early in the game, but trailed 4-2 before tying the score in the seventh inning and falling behind again, 6-4, in the eighth. West tied things up at 6-6 in the top of the ninth before East’s walk-off victory later in the inning. The East All-Stars have now won the game three years in a row, and lead the all-time series with nine wins to West’s five.

The Camden County Softball All-Star Game will be played next, starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 14, at Eastern High School.

Official Score: Camden County East 7, Camden County West 6

Below is the recap from the game:

Dan Brown (Haddonfield) worked a bases loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Camden County East All-Stars defeated the West 7-6 on Monday evening at Campbell’s Field, home of the 15th annual Camden County All-Star game.

The West all-stars took a 2-0 lead on a triple by Clayton Pfettscher (Haddon Twp.) in the top of the third inning. Pfettscher also started on the mound and worked two scoreless innings, allowing only one hit while recording two strikeouts.

The East countered with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Domonic Augello (Lindenwold) tripled and scored on a passed ball with Brad Kite (Sterling) adding a two-run single down the right field line to give his squad the lead.

An error in the bottom of the fourth inning and an RBI groundout led to the East taking a 4-2 lead.

An RBI single by Andrew Phillips (Collingswood) in the top of the sixth inning cut the West deficit to 4-3.  Phillips was the only player on either squad to record two hits in the game.

The West tied the game 4-4 on a bases loaded walk in the seventh inning.
The East took advantage of a passed ball and throwing error to plate two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to go back into the lead 6-4.

The West scored twice in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI single from Liam Anderson (Cherry Hill High School West) with an RBI groundout from Audubon’s Andrew Fehr.

The West committed its fifth error of the game with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and the East had two batters hit by pitches to load the bases and setup the final play.

Maurice Lewis (Winslow) was credited with the win after working the ninth inning for the East.

The teams combined for 27 runners left on base, 17 by the West.
This was the ninth win in the all-time series for the East with the East winning for the third year in a row.
