Shared Services Office Hosts State Leaders to Address Mayors’ Concerns
For Immediate Release: July 8, 2008

The Camden County Freeholder Board has assembled an all-star panel of Shared Services leaders to speak to the concerns of mayors and municipal decision-makers. A lively exchange is expected at the forum, entitled “Sharing Services: Where We Are… Where We’re Headed…” to be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the Camden County Boathouse, 7050 N. Park Drive, Pennsauken, NJ. The forum is free-of-charge. 150 officials are expected to attend. The agenda includes:

  • Keynote address by New Jersey Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts, Jr.
  • Remarks and Q&A by a distinguished panel of statewide Shared Services authorities, including:

New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Joseph V. Doria, Jr.

Local Unit Alignment, Reorganization and Consolidation Commission (LUARC) Chairman Jack Fisher

Somerset County Business Partnership Shared Services Administrator Peter Wright

With governments facing ever-increasing demands upon their fiscal resources, the forum, organized by the Camden County Office of Shared Services provides local leaders with information vital for future planning.

Of particular value to local leaders are the statewide perspectives of Speaker Roberts, Commissioner Doria, and recently appointed LUARC Chairman Jack Fisher. They will lead the formulation of policies that directly influences the delivery of local government services. The LUARC Commission, structured similarly to the U.S. Department of Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission (BRAC), will recommend legislative changes which would encourage the more efficient operation of local government, including but not limited to, the transfer of functions from one level of government to another and the use or establishment of regional service delivery entities.

“While Camden County has long been a leader in putting shared services to practice,” said Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr., “we are encouraged by actions of progressive mayors currently sharing a myriad of local services. We will work in union with them and also support their efforts to seek out new opportunities for sharing, allowing all levels of government to control costs while maintaining high quality services for all residents,” stated Cappelli.
