Camden
County Freeholders have granted $36,590 to a consortium of Voorhees,
Berlin Borough and Gibbsboro to fund a variety of programs aimed
at preventing drug abuse through education in the community for
a variety of age groups.
It
is part of a larger grant the county receives from the state to
distribute to each of the 37 municipalities in Camden County under
the state’s Drug Enforcement Demand Reduction (DEDR) program,
according to Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez, liaison to the county’s
department of health and human services.
Ms.
Rodriguez said the funds will be used to finance, among other things,
peer leadership training, a student wellness assembly, a substance
free graduation celebration, creation of a TAG (Teens Are Great)
group, an afternoon program for at-risk fifth graders and participation
in the DARE program.
Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said funding
was approved at the Feb. 21 freeholder meeting in Lawnside, adding
that its value is substantially enhanced with $36,599 in cash and
in-kind contributions.
