Subsidized Housing

This rental housing in generally in the form of garden apartments, attached housing, or apartments in high-rise or mid-rise buildings. The units have been specially designed for people who are age 62 or older and the handicapped. Construction or rental costs are financed by the state or federal government. Sponsors of this housing include non-profit or limited profit organizations or public housing authorities. According to the Federal Administration on Aging, preference for federally funded housing is given to people who are paying more than %0% of their income in rent, are being displaced from their homes or live in inadequate housing. In some buildings recreational activities and support services such as meals, housekeeping or transportation are provided. Some facilities offer congregate services (housekeeping, meals, & personal assistance) that may be included in the rent or purchased separately.
