June 6, 2006

Acting Camden County Prosecutor James P. Lynch and Camden Police Executive Robert L. Stewart reported that a city man who was shot on Saturday night, June 3, at 24th and Federal streets died last night at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J.

Miguel Soto, 22, suffered a single gunshot wound to the upper body at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Saturday. He was transported to Cooper, where he was pronounced dead at 9:22 p.m. last night.

Investigation indicates:

Soto was among a group of people attending a party at a Mexican restaurant at 24th and Federal. He and other men from the party got into a dispute outside the establishment with another group of men socializing in the area. The dispute escalated into a physical altercation. It is believed that at least one man left the area and returned with a handgun. A short time later, a shot was fired, striking Soto.

No arrests have been made. An investigation is continuing by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Camden Police.

Anyone with information is urged to call Investigator Matt Woshnak of the Prosecutors Office at (856) 225-8400 or Camden Police Detective Wayne Matthews at (856) 757-7420.
