Acting Camden County Prosecutor James P. Lynch and Camden Police
Executive Robert L. Stewart reported that an 18-year-old woman was
shot to death and five people were injured by gunfire during an
early morning shooting today in Camden, N.J.
Camden
Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Mount
Ephraim Avenue and Thurman Street in the city’s Whitman Park
section at 3:41 a.m. today. Officers arrived to find the victim,
Rashell Harmon, of Van Hook Street in Camden, who had suffered multiple
gunshot wounds and was deceased.
Four
other victims, all Camden residents, were transported to local hospitals:
A 22-year-old male in critical condition with a gunshot wound to
the chest; an 18-year-old male, shot in the foot; a 23-year-old
male, shot in the buttocks; and a 22-year-old female, shot in the
leg and foot.
A possible
sixth victim is believed to have transported himself to a hospital.
That victim, a 25-year-old male, suffered a gunshot wound to the
face. His wound was not considered life-threatening.
Investigation
indicates that a crowd of at least a dozen people was socializing
on the street in the area of Mount Ephraim and Thurman, near a fried
chicken restaurant that was still open. Shots rang out, the victims
fell to the ground and others in the crowd scattered. Investigation
indicates at least six shots were fired by at least one shooter.
No
arrests have been made. An investigation continues by the Camden
County Prosecutor’s office and Camden Police.
Anyone
