MEDIA INFORMATION
April 13, 2006
Acting Camden County Prosecutor James P. Lynch reported today that
a jury has convicted a 37 year old Camden man of multiple counts
of Aggravated Sexual Assault. Reginald Troup, of the 1100 block
of Louis Street, was charged in 2004 with assaulting a young boy,
now age 12, over a six year period between 1997 and 2003. It was
alleged that during the assaults, Troup incapacitated the youth
by giving him over the counter cold medicines. The two week trial
was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Angela Pallo.
Troup
was convicted on two counts of 1st degree Aggravated Sexual Assault
and two counts of 2nd degree Sexual Assault, as well as 1 count
of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor. Troup, who has been in custody
since his arrest, is scheduled to be sentenced on July 14, 2006.
He is facing a possible sentence of up to forty years in prison,
with a minimum mandatory 85% completion before parole.
Lynch
praised the efforts of the Camden Police as well as the Child Abuse
Unit and Trial Team Unit of the Prosecutor’s Office.
“I
am pleased that the dedicated work of so many law enforcement professionals
enabled the jury to arrive at a fair and just verdict. Assistant
Prosecutor Pallo, along with the Victim-Witness Unit of the Prosecutor’s
Office, did a superb job of preparing and presenting the testimony
of this very brave little boy. I commend all of those who played
a part in this case for making the legal system work to protect
the youngest and most vulnerable among us.”
