CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
JAMES P. LYNCH, ACTING CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA INFORMATION

March 21, 2006

Acting Camden County Prosecutor James P. Lynch and Gloucester City Police Chief William G. Crothers reported today that a 40-year-old man was charged with Murder last night in the death of a woman who has been positively identified as Lisa Hoopes, 43, of Gloucester City, N.J.

The defendant, John W. Creamer III, of 329 N. Burlington St. in Gloucester City, is accused of purposely or knowingly causing the victim’s death or serious injury resulting in death. Creamer, who is diabetic, was admitted to a local hospital last night for treatment of a chronic medical condition and remains hospitalized.

At approximately 7 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2006, Creamer advised police that he believed something bad had happened in his apartment. Gloucester City Police officers proceeded to the apartment. They entered and discovered the victim, who had suffered numerous wounds and was deceased. An autopsy by Medical Examiner Gerald Feigin determined the victim had suffered blunt trauma to the head and body as well as multiple stab wounds. Dr. Feigin ruled the manner of death as homicide.

Investigation indicates that a loud struggle took place in the defendant’s apartment late Friday night, March 17, and into early Saturday morning, March 18, while Creamer and Hoopes were there. It is alleged that Creamer participated in beating Hoopes at that time because he believed she had stolen money from a friend of Creamer’s.

The investigation is continuing by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Gloucester City Police Department.

All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
