Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi, Camden Police Chief
Edwin J. Figueroa and U.S. Marshal for New Jersey James Plousis
reported that a 19-year-old Camden man was arrested today in New
Castle, Del., on a warrant charging him with Murder in the fatal
shooting of Charles Raikes, M/23, on June 11, 2005, in Camden, N.J.
Members of the U.S. Marshal's New Jersey/New York Regional Task
Force arrested Theends L. Brown, a.k.a. "Mookie," formerly of the
1500 block of Wildwood Avenue in Camden, without incident at an
apartment in New Castle at approximately 7 a.m. today. At an arraignment
later in the day, Superior Court Judge Samuel D. Natal set bail
at $400,000, cash or bond.
The task force includes detectives from the Marshal's Service, Prosecutor's
Office, State Police and City Police, as well as the N.J. Department
of Corrections.
Camden Police responded at 3:22 a.m. on June 5 to a call reporting
a man shot in Farnham Park off the 1500 block of Park Boulevard.
Arriving officers found the victim, of Pennsauken, suffering from
a single gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to
Cooper University Hospital, where he died a short time later.
Investigation indicates that the victim and the defendant had an
ongoing dispute over money. It is alleged that after the two engaged
in a fistfight, Brown pulled a handgun and shot Raikes once in the
abdomen.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent
unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
