CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
VINCENT P. SARUBBI, CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA   INFORMATION

June 27, 2005

Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi announced today that work has begun on a review of the missing persons investigation and search operation involving three boys who were reported missing on Wednesday evening, June 22, 2005, in Camden, N.J.

Sarubbi reported on Saturday that he had formed a panel to conduct the after-action review. The panel consists of First Assistant Prosecutor James P. Lynch, Deputy Chief of County Investigators Michael Kantner and Camden Police Deputy Chief Edward Hargis. He has directed the members to provide him with a written report within 30 days.

The three boys - Anibal Cruz, age 11, Daniel Agosto, 6, and Jesstin Pagan, 5 - were found dead at approximately 6:45 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2005, inside the trunk of a Toyota Camry in the yard of a home in the 900 block of Bergen Avenue in Camden where the boys had last been seen playing.

"This will be a thorough review that will examine all the facts and circumstances that may bear on why the boys were not discovered sooner," Sarubbi said.

Work actually began Saturday to gather all the relevant reports and documentation from Camden Police and to identify individuals with pertinent information, Sarubbi said. While the police department led the missing persons investigation and search operation, numerous other public safety agencies participated.

"The families of these boys and the community at large have questions that need to be answered fully and accurately," Sarubbi said. Sarubbi said he intends to make the report public once it is complete and the contents have been shared with surviving family members.

"Right now, these families need time and space to grieve," Sarubbi said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the people who loved these boys."
