MEDIA INFORMATION
June 10, 2005
Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Camden Police Chief
Edwin J. Figueroa reported today that authorities are seeking the
public's help in locating Helenia Nicole Garry, F/20, of Camden,
who is charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child - her 23-month-old
daughter who was found Thursday, June 9, 2005, alone in a home in
Camden, N.J.
Garry is described as a black female, approximately 5-foot-6 and
130 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. See photo below.
A truancy officer for the Camden Board of Education was in the 1400
block of Belleview Avenue in Camden looking for school-hour curfew
violators when she heard the child crying inside a home at approximately
12:30 p.m. Thursday. The school truancy officer became concerned
and called Camden Police. Police officers responded and, after getting
no answer at the door, made entry. They found the child alone in
the house, which was unkempt and lacking utility service. The child
was dirty, hungry and scared, but not injured, officers reported.
It is not clear how long the child had been alone in the home.
State child welfare workers believe that Garry has another child,
approximately 6 months old, whose whereabouts are also unknown.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the defendant or the
other child is urged to call Investigator John Hunsinger of the
Camden County Prosecutor's Office at (856) 365-3122 or Camden Police
Sgt. Fred Davis at (856) 757-7432.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent
unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
