Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Camden Police Chief
Edwin J. Figueroa announced today that a $1,000 reward has been
posted for information on the whereabouts of a 23-year-old Camden
man charged with Murder in the fatal shooting of a West Deptford
man on Monday, May 2, 2005, in Camden, N.J.
A warrant has been issued for Dawayne Lindsey, who has addresses
in the 1900 block of Pierce Avenue and the 2500 block of South 8th
Street, both in Camden. He is described as a black male, approximately
5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Please
see photo below.
Camden Police responded at 3:10 p.m. on May 2 to a report of a man
shot at 8th Street and Morgan Boulevard in the South Camden section
of the city. Officers arriving at the scene learned that the victim,
Ronald Akins, 38, had been transported to Cooper University Hospital
in Camden by a civilian in the civilian's vehicle. Akins had suffered
multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and died a short time
later at Cooper.
Investigation indicates that Lindsey approached Akins while the
victim was selling footwear from his van, parked in the area of
a shopping plaza at 8th & Morgan. It is alleged that Lindsey exchanged
words with Akin over an earlier dispute, then shot Akins from close
range.
Sarubbi and Figueroa warned that Lindsey is considered dangerous
and cautioned citizens not to approach the defendant, but to contact
authorities.
