Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Camden Police Chief
Edwin J. Figueroa reported that a 16 year old Camden juvenile was
arrested today and charged with Manslaughter, accused of assaulting,
Eleazar E. Pineda, a 36 year old homeless man and causing his death.
The Defendant is being held in the Camden County Juvenile Detention
Center. A juvenile detention hearing will be held at 9:00 am Monday,
April 4, 2005 in Family Court of the Camden County Hall of Justice,
5th Street & Mickle Boulevard, Camden.
It is alleged that on March 6, 2005, at approximately 4:10 pm, the
Juvenile suspect punched Mr. Pineda in the head causing the victim
to fall to the ground and hitting his head on the concrete, resulting
in his death on March 8, 2005. The incident took place at Chestnut
and Marion Streets, Camden, New Jersey.
Sarubbi and Figueroa credited the lead detectives in the case, Senior
Investigator Diane Wilson of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office
and Camden Police Detective Eric White, for developing the evidence
that led to today's arrest.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent unless
and until proven guilty in a court of law.
