CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
VINCENT P. SARUBBI, CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA INFORMATION
March 3, 2005
Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Camden Police Chief
Edwin J. Figueroa reported today that a 41-year-old Gloucester Township
man was found shot to death last night in Camden, N.J.
Camden Police responded to an 8:05 p.m. report of shots fired and
an unconscious person in a vehicle on South 8th Street near Central
Avenue in the Centerville section of Camden. They arrived to find
the victim, Frank Gerace, unresponsive in his 1994 Ford pickup truck.
Gerace, of the Glendora section of Gloucester Township, had suffered
a gunshot wound to the torso. He was transported to Cooper University
Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:15 p.m.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Gerace, an emergency medical
technician in Delaware County, Pa., may have driven to 8th & Central,
a known drug-trafficking area, to purchase crack cocaine, and that
someone shot him while he was sitting in the driver's seat of his
vehicle.
"It is inherently dangerous to frequent a known narcotics trafficking
area," Sarubbi stated. "People who come from the suburbs to buy drugs
in Camden not only risk being arrested and prosecuted, they risk their
lives too. Too often, suburban residents who fuel the Camden drug
trade come to the city and die there."
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Senior Investigator
John Greer of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office at (856) 225-8400
or Camden Police Detective Orlando Perez at (856) 757-7420. All information
will be kept confidential.
