VINCENT P. SARUBBI, CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA   INFORMATION

February 24, 2005

Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Cherry Hill Police Chief Brian Malloy reported today that a developmentally disabled man is in extremely critical condition with head injuries suffered in a fall after he was pushed by a fellow patient at a treatment and therapy facility in Cherry Hill, N.J.

Michael Collins, 44, is in Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

Cherry Hill Police responded to the Willowglen Academy on King Avenue on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at approximately 2:15 p.m. to find the victim unresponsive.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Collins was at the facility for his normal course of therapy when another patient approached Collins and pushed him, causing him to fall and strike his head on the floor. There was no verbal or physical contact between the two prior to the incident, investigation indicates.

The 38-year-old patient who pushed Collins is mentally retarded and autistic. He has not been charged at this time. The investigation is continuing.

Both men are residents of a group home on Delwood Road in Cherry Hill that is affiliated with the Willowglen Academy, which is a subsidiary of Phoenix Care Systems of Milwaukee, Wis. The patient who pushed Collins remains in the custody of Willowglen.
