CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
VINCENT P. SARUBBI, CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA   INFORMATION

February 4, 2005

Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi reported that Michael Carter, 43, pleaded guilty today to Aggravated Manslaughter, admitting that he fatally shot Frances Lillian Keaton, F/45, on March 29, 2003, in Camden.

Carter, of the 1500 block of Park Boulevard in Camden, admitted to Superior Court Judge Robert G. Millenky that after he argued with the victim early that morning in a cemetery in the 900 block of Haddon Avenue in Camden, he pulled a handgun and shot her once in the head. Passersby found the body of the victim, who had lived in the 1300 block of Park Boulevard, at approximately 9:30 a.m. that day. Carter was arrested on April 4, 2003.

The plea agreement negotiated by Assistant Prosecutor Teresa Garvey calls for Carter to be sentenced to a 16-year prison term, including 85 percent, or just more than 13½ years, to be served before he becomes eligible for parole.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 18, 2005.
