CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
VINCENT P. SARUBBI, CAMDEN COUNTY PROSECUTOR
MEDIA   INFORMATION

January 12, 2005

Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Camden Police Chief Edwin J. Figueroa reported that a Camden man was arrested today and charged with Murder, accused of fatally shooting Shaun Doyle, M/35, of Winslow, on June 22, 2004, in Camden, N.J.

William F. Alvelo, of the 300 block of Chestnut Street, was being held in the Camden County Correctional Facility. An arraignment is scheduled for approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2005, before Superior Court Judge Linda G. Baxter, Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division in Camden, in Courtroom 33 of the Camden County Hall of Justice, 5th Street & Mickle Boulevard, Camden.

It is alleged that Alvelo shot and killed Doyle while attempting to rob him. A Camden Police sergeant on patrol in the area of Haddon Avenue and Mickle Boulevard found the victim lying near the median separating the east and westbound lanes of Mickle Boulevard at 11:37 p.m. on June 22.

Investigation indicates the victim and his girlfriend arrived at the Rand Transportation Center in Camden on the High-Speed Line and sought out assistance to purchase drugs. While they were in the area of Mickle Boulevard, Alvelo allegedly approached them, pulled a handgun and demanded money from Doyle. It is alleged that when Doyle hesitated, Alvelo shot the victim in the torso and fled. The victim ran across Mickle Boulevard and collapsed in the street.

Sarubbi and Figueroa credited the lead detectives in the case, Senior Investigator Jeff Long of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and Camden Police Detective Jose Torres, for developing the evidence that led to today's arrest.

All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
