Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi announced that a Grand
Jury today indicted a former Voorhees man on charges of Attempted
Murder and related offenses stemming from an alleged murder-for-hire
attempt on his estranged wife.
John A. Sannuti Jr., M/49, of the 2000 block of Carpenter Street
in Philadelphia, was arrested on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003.
The investigation indicates that during the early morning hours
of Sept. 1, 2003, the defendant drove three female acquaintances,
ages 17, 18 and 20, from Philadelphia to estranged wife's residence
in Voorhees. Sannuti allegedly offered the females money to kill
his wife, and attempted to supply them with a knife and latex gloves.
When the females refused, the defendant allegedly threatened to
kill them. He later drove them back to Philadelphia and dropped
them off, the investigation indicates.
The females reported the incident to Philadelphia Police at approximately
3:30 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2003. Philadelphia Police then contacted Voorhees
Police, who investigated the case along with the Domestic Violence
Unit of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.
In addition to Attempted Murder, Sannuti was indicted on three counts
each of Terroristic Threats and Criminal Coercion - one count for
each of the acquaintances - as well as single counts of Possession
of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Unlawful Possession of a
Weapon.
Maximum state prison terms are 20 years for Attempted Murder and
five years for the other counts, except for Unlawful Possession
of a Weapon, which carries a maximum 18-month term. Sannuti is free
after posting $100,000 bail. No court dates are scheduled at this
time.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent
unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
