Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Lindenwold Police
Chief Frank McHenry announced that Morris Forrest Broadway, M/27,
listed by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office as a Most Wanted
Fugitive, turned himself in today at Lindenwold Police headquarters.
Broadway, of the first block of Peoria Lane in Sicklerville, is
charged with Murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Maurice
Develle Thomas, M/20, on Jan. 22, 2004 in Lindenwold, N.J.
Broadway
surrendered shortly before 10 a.m. He is being held in the Camden
County Correctional Facility pending an arraignment expected to
be held tomorrow, Friday, May 7, 2004, at the Camden County Hall
of Justice.
Three other defendants in the case remain jailed: the alleged shooter,
Troy Broadway, 27, of the Barrington Inn & Motel on the White Horse
Pike in Barrington, who is Morris Broadway's brother; Rahsann Riley,
32, of the Arborwood Apartments on Gibbsboro Road in Lindenwold;
and Melvin "Manny" Clark, M/26, of the first block of Penfield Lane
in Sicklerville.
Lindenwold Police received a 911 call at approximately 11:01 p.m.
on Jan. 22 reporting shots fired at the Green Tree Apartments on
Gibbsboro Road. Officers arrived to find the victim lying on the
floor of unit 1504. Thomas had been shot multiple times in the upper
body and was dead at the scene.
It is alleged that the four defendants went to the apartment armed
with a handgun intending to rob Thomas.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent
unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
