Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi reported today that
a Grand Jury last week "no-billed" charges against Charles Johnson,
a.k.a. Charles Smith, M/42, of the Forest Gate Apartments on Otter
Branch Drive in Magnolia, ruling there was insufficient evidence
to support an indictment.
Johnson had been charged in August with Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault,
Terroristic Threats, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (hammer) and
Possession of a Weapon (hammer) for an Unlawful Purpose. All charges
have been dismissed based on the Grand Jury's action.
"While it would not be appropriate to discuss Grand Jury evidence
in detail, information developed during the investigation raised
serious questions regarding the victim's representations about Mr.
Johnson's conduct," Sarubbi said. "In fairness to Mr. Johnson and
in keeping with our legal and ethical responsibilities, that information
was presented to the Grand Jury, which voted to no-bill the case."
