Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Acting Camden Police
Chief Edwin J. Figueroa reported that two men have been charged
with Murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a Chinese restaurant
proprietor on March 11, 2004, in Camden, N.J.
Brandon B. Smith, a.k.a. Bryant Smith, M/19, of the 100 block of
North 35th Street in Camden, and Omar D. McClarin, M/25, of the
1300 block of Jackson Street in Camden, are being held in the Camden
County Correctional Facility pending an arraignment today at 2:45
p.m. before Presiding Criminal Court Judge Linda G. Baxter, Courtroom
33, Camden County Hall of Justice, 5th Street & Mickle Boulevard,
Camden.
The investigation is continuing and additional arrests are possible.
The investigation indicates the defendants conspired to rob the
Happy Dragon Restaurant at 72 S. 28th Street. At approximately 12:15
p.m. on March 11, during the course of the robbery, the defendants
shot Bao Xing Lin, who owned and operated the eatery, investigation
indicates. Lin suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died at 6:01
p.m. that night at Cooper University Hospital.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent
unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
