Camden County Prosecutor Vincent P. Sarubbi and Delaware River Port
Authority Police Department Chief of Public Safety Vincent J. Borrelli
reported today that Michael B. Dolin, owner of the Classic Baking
Company, Inc., has been charged with theft of services for persistently
avoiding payment of tolls by his company's drivers.
Police officers from the Delaware River Port Authority Police and
investigators from the Camden County Prosecutor's Office served
the Cherry Hill businessman with the complaints at his residence
at 20 Southwood Drive in Cherry Hill early this morning. A search
warrant was executed, resulting in the seizure of seven trucks belonging
to the company. The trucks are being held in storage pending possible
forfeiture action.
Between May 8, 2002 and February 29, 2004, Dolin's company's trucks
used the Betsy Ross, Ben Franklin, Commodore Barry and Walt Whitman
bridges on a regular basis without paying tolls. The drivers evaded
the tolls by proceeding through the EZ-Pass lanes of the toll plazas
without valid permits. During the time period 1,132 infractions
were recorded totaling $20,000.00 in unpaid tolls and related fees.
Although the Port Authority repeatedly notified Dolin of these infractions,
Dolin took no action to pay what was owed for the unpaid tolls or
to pay the fines or penalties assessed. Rather, Dolin's drivers
continued to evade the tolls on a regular basis.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent
unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
